It was just days ago that the Resident Evil 4 remake was review bombed – again for being too ‘woke’, according to those bombing it. It was a similar scenario with The Last of Us II, which was review bombed for similar circumstances. Towards the end of Burning Shores, Aloy (the protagonist) is presented with the option to share a kiss with another woman, and that’s the sole reason why many gamers have taken to platforms like Metacritic to launch a tirade, review bombing the game. That’s what’s been happening in the last few days with Horizon: Forbidden West and its Burning Shores DLC. However, for a while now, the act of airing these grievances has taken place in the form of review bombing, which is where a user will deliberately score a game as low as possible on any given platform, forcing down its overall rating, and often leaving an abusive or disrespectful comment. Review Bombing Has Blown Upįor years, disgruntled gamers have taken to the airwaves to voice their opinions about video games that, for some reason or another, they weren’t happy with.

It has stated quite clearly that it’s going to be ‘evolving’ its processes and tools, improving moderation across the board in a bid to tackle review bombing, a concept that has worsened dramatically in recent years. Thankfully, there may be a way for this to be stopped.Following the latest round of abusive and malicious review bombing that targeted Horizon: Forbidden West and its Burning Shores DLC, Metacritic’s parent company, Fandom, has pledged to fight back against those using its platforms to spread hatred and write up ‘disrespectful reviews.’ Sadly, review bombing is a classic technique by trolls, who slam numerous films, TV shows, and games simply because they don’t like the lead characters, especially if they’re women who aren’t eye candy, show diversity, and so on. That is not only a version of bigotry, but it’s letting personal feelings affect how you feel about a gaming title that does not affect you outside of how you play it. That led to numerous reviews on Metacritic slamming the game for its choice. But at the end of the DLC, you can choose a romance option between Aloya and Sekya, and the two women kiss as a result. At first, she’s a standard new hero for the game. In the expansion, Aloy meets a new character named Sekya. Instead, it’s those who don’t like a story element of the DLC. So why is there such a drop in gamers’ minds? Well, it’s not gamers in general who hate the title. However, if you look at the user score, it’s much lower at 4.2.
If you go to Metacritic, you’ll see an 8.2 score for the DLC by critics/reviewers. The latest is Horizon Forbidden West via its Burning Shores DLC.

It’s a great time to be a gamer! Or, at least, we’d love to say that, but there are contingents of people out there who are so rigid in their beliefs that they feel it’s their “duty” to review bomb games that feature things they don’t like.
